Joanne & The Bunny Bach
Where it started
When Jo came to me, The Bunny Bach didn't have a website or a shop at all. She told me she was at a total standstill before we started working together, and needed something calm, clean, and functional that could actually show what she does: bunny boarding (accommodation for buns, like a cattery), grooming, and genuine rabbit-care knowledge, not just a generic pet shop template.
What I wanted to build for her was a proper ecosystem, somewhere customers could buy tasty treats, sustenance, and entertaining products for their rabbits, purchase easily, and always get charged the right shipping rate, whatever they bought and wherever they were in the country.
Building the foundation
I built the full website on Rocketspark including pages for education, care guides, product information, and the Bunny Bach story woven through properly, a blog, resources, imagery, and navigation that made sense for someone visiting the website for the first time, plus the original shop sitting right inside it. As Joanne put it: 'I had to figure out very little, Tuesday guided us along and did all the hard work.'
Shipping was already a puzzle even then. Hay, treats, and accessories needed different prices depending on where in New Zealand they were going, rural addresses cost more to reach than urban ones, and Rocketspark didn't have a built-in way to handle that properly. So I came up with a workaround: different pricing zones customers could select at checkout. It worked, and it carried Bunny Bach through a couple of good years on Rocketspark, but it relied on customers being honest about where they actually lived to get charged the right rural or urban rate, which was never going to hold up forever as the business grew.
Growing into Shopify
After a couple of years of that workaround holding things together, growth made the cracks show. Joanne wanted to ship nationwide properly, not rely on customers self-selecting a zone and hoping they picked honestly, and Rocketspark didn't have the depth to fix that itself. So I rebuilt the entire shop on Shopify, full product setup across hay, treats, and accessories, collections, tags, filtering, related products, and a theme customised to still feel like her brand rather than a generic Shopify store. Alongside the migration, I brought in a shipping app and built out bespoke shipping zones, tiered pricing, and product-specific rules, so the checkout finally gave a reliable, accurate rate every time, no honesty required. In Jo's words: 'We went with Tuesday's advice and it was a fantastic move. It opened up more doors and has some great functions to make things run much easier.'
Alongside the shop, I built her newsletter and CRM system too, set up MailerLite, designed branded templates, linked the email forms straight to Shopify, built a welcome automation with proper tagging, and synced the customer database across both systems so nothing was sitting in two disconnected places. Jo told me this 'is an excellent way to reach all customers with very little effort,' which is exactly the point. It should run in the background, not sit on her to-do list.
Through the challenges
None of it was simple, and shipping in particular threw up real challenges along the way, but Jo's own words say it better than I could: 'Tuesday remained calm, was very communicative, and always found a way. She prioritised what we wanted and listened to all our concerns.' And later, on how that actually felt to go through: 'I felt supported the entire journey. Tuesday's calmness stood out for me. Nothing was ever too much, or ever fazed her.'
The result
Where things stand now, shipping is far more efficient, the shop runs properly nationwide, and Joanne still comes to me when something new comes up, which I love, because this was never meant to be a one-off build. As she put it: 'I literally couldn't have done it without her. Even now, I still ask her for some help when needed.'
What's there now is a proper ecosystem, warm, educational, and trustworthy, with a customer journey that runs from website to shop to email list without any gaps, and a backend that finally matches how the business actually operates. It also means Jo and her team get to spend their time on what they're actually there for, caring for their customers and their animals, while the systems just run properly behind the scenes.
Asked what she'd want another small business owner to know, Jo didn't hesitate: 'Bliss. She is communicative, understanding, and extremely knowledgeable in this field. What meant the most to us was that she listened to what we wanted and made it all happen.'
